Marley SolarTile® panels were specified to provide renewable energy for the Hollinwood Business Park development in Oldham. The project, led by RG Partnership and contractors TB Electrics, will transform a former brownfield site. The seven new office buildings have been designed to reflect the heritage of the 1800s cotton mills that were once found in the area. Block G was the first to be completed and included 114 Marley SolarTile® panels.
Following a Marley CPD presentation that set out the installation and sustainability benefits of solar PV, the client specified Marley SolarTile® to help power the commercial office project.
Dan Black, an architectural technologist from RG Partnership, commented: “When the project commenced, a feasibility study on solar photovoltaics was explored by the mechanical engineer, but it wasn’t part of the planning application.”
He continues: “Marley presented an online CPD on solar PV solutions covering its SolarTile® product. It was perfect timing as we were looking for solar photovoltaic suppliers without success. Thanks to the informative content of the CPD, we were able to better understand the process of integrating SolarTile® with the proposed slate tile specified on the roof in a way that truly supported the overall aesthetic we wanted to achieve.”
Following the CPD session, RG Partnership engaged Marley to see how SolarTile® could be effectively incorporated. Because Marley SolarTile® is installed as a roof-integrated unit that sits flush with the roof plane, rather than mounted just above the roof, it provided the streamlined appearance that was required. At the time, Block G was already under construction, but the roof work had yet to commence.
