Installing the Marley Roof System

Installing the Marley Roof System is straightforward. Each component is designed for on-site compatibility and ease of handling, helping installers work efficiently while achieving a consistent, compliant finish that performs well over time.

  • Base layers – Installation begins with battens, the timbers that run across the length of the roof and provide a surface for fixing tiles. Marley’s JB Red Battens are the only machine-graded battens on the market, providing installers with a strong, durable base that supports both the roof covering and people working on the roof.
  • Underlay – The next layer is the underlay, which provides an extra layer of leak resistance.
  • Roof coverings – Marley’s extensive collection of roof coverings includes a variety of profiles, colour options and materials. Tiles are also available for low-pitched roofs down to 12.5°, ensuring solutions for a variety of roof designs. With so many options, homeowners can easily find a roof covering that suits their preferences, their home and the local area.
  • Roofing accessories – The collection of compatible roofing accessories includes vents, hips, ridges, verges, eaves and valleys. All can be installed using modern dry fix methods that use mechanical fixing rather than mortar, ensuring compliance with all relevant building regulations and safety requirements.

Dry fix installation made easy

The code of practice for installing slates and tiles, BS 5534, is an extensive document that establishes the importance of dry fixing in roof installation.

That is, the use of mechanical fixings in roof coverings in place of traditional mortar. While the standard isn't required by law, following its guidelines will contribute towards building regulation compliance.

Marley has developed many high-performance, purpose-made systems for pitched roofs, including dry fix ridges, hips, verges, valleys, and ventilation products.

Installing roof systems with integrated solar

With increasing energy prices and growing concern for the environment, solar panels are a popular choice among homeowners looking to cut electricity bills and make their homes more sustainable.

For installers looking for a way to integrate solar PV into a roofing project, Marley SolarTile® is the ideal choice. This roof-integrated solar system sits flush with the roof and is attached directly to the roof battens, replacing tiles or slates. It is provided as a complete kit, doesn’t require any specialist skills or tools to install and is fully compatible with the rest of the Marley Roof System.
