Overview
Developed by Blue Forest and designed by HollandGreen for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025, The Sanctuary Treehouse offered visitors a calm retreat within the show gardens. Marley Western Red Cedar Shingles were selected for the roof to complement the timber structure with a natural, refined finish that sits comfortably within the planting scheme.
The Roofing Solution
Marley supplied Western Red Cedar Shingles for the treehouse roof. The product’s fine texture and warm tone enhance the character of the structure and support the project’s emphasis on natural materials. The shingles are made from a renewable resource and can be a lower-carbon alternative when compared with more traditional roof coverings seen throughout the UK. Their low weight also helps reduce structural loading on timber frames and allows for tight detailing around junctions and curves.
As a low-weight solution, shingles also reduce the structural loading on timber frames. In addition, timber allows for tight detailing around junctions and curves as it is easy to cut and shape.
The Outcome
The finished roof provides a coherent, calming aesthetic that aligns with the quiet character of The Sanctuary. The project team has also indicated that materials will be reused or repurposed following the show, supporting responsible end-of-show planning.
