Marley clay roof tiles on a production line

Marley’s Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)

At Marley, we are committed to providing EPDs for all applicable products. Below, you can download the latest EPDs for roofing products including Marley SolarTile®, clay roof tiles and concrete roof tiles.

An EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is a verified document that provides architects and specifiers with detailed information about the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire lifecycle. It provides important data about resource consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental metrics, helping you select a product that meets a project’s sustainability goals.

EPDs produced to industry standards

All of our EPDs are produced according to the standards set out in – ISO 14025:2006, which covers environmental labels and declarations, and EN 15804:2012+A2:2019/AC:2021, which covers sustainability of construction works, including rules for EPDs.
This standardised format helps to ensure that the data provided is accurate and comprehensive. It also makes it easier to compare different products.

How is an EPD created?

Within an EPD, the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is split into 17 distinct modules. For ease the 17 modules are sometimes further split into five key areas. Specifiers can assess which life cycle contributes the most to the environmental impact of the product

At Marley, we care about the way we do things, and we are always looking for new ways to improve our manufacturing processes – not just in terms of sustainability, but also quality and health and safety.

We have long been a leader in sustainable roofing, becoming the first in the roofing industry to have our Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data independently verified and to be awarded Certified Environmental Profiles by the Building Research Establishment (BRE). We were also the first to achieve ISO 14001 certification – the internationally recognised standard for environmental management – across all of our factories.

To ensure that Marley’s carbon reduction targets are meaningful and our progress stands up against scrutiny we felt it was important to have these validated and have therefore set our targets in line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Science-based targets provide a clear path to reduce emissions, aligning with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C. By following SBTi’s framework, Marley ensures that our carbon reduction goals are grounded in scientific methodology rather than arbitrary figures. SBTi represents the standard for emissions reduction reporting and target setting, providing credibility and accountability and demonstrating our commitment to being guided by science as we work to reduce our carbon footprint.

To further improve our procedures and reduce the carbon footprint of our products, we continually review our manufacturing processes, identifying ways to further minimise our environmental impact.

In addition to our environmental procedures, we have also demonstrated our commitment to responsible manufacturing with other certifications, including:

  • ISO 9001 – Ensures consistent quality management, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.

  • ISO 45001 – Provides a framework for improving workplace safety, reducing risks and creating better working conditions.
