Dry fix solutions have developed considerably over the last couple of decades as an alternative to mortar bedding for securing and weathering roof fittings and accessories. In fact, Marley were at the forefront of this new roofing technology being the first manufacturer in the UK to launch a complete ‘dry fix’ roof system comprising ventilated dry ridge and interlocking dry verge components, over 30 years ago
Although mortar has historically been the popular choice to bed hips, ridge and verges, there a number of factors that cause mortar to fail. Consequently, the latest edition of BS 5534 requires all bedded ridges to be mechanically fixed. Dry fix systems provide a mechanically secured alternative to mortar which not only reduces maintenance, but in the case of ridge and hip systems, also provides ventilation to the loft or roof void to meet current Building Regulations, British Standards and National House Building Council (NHBC) guidelines.
